Review : Aktivitas Antioksidan Alpha Lipoic Acid dan Peranannya Dalam In Vitro Embryo Production
Abstract

ABSTRACT
Infertility is a big fear for every couple. Not all couples have the opportunity to continue their offspring naturally, so they must be assisted with assisted reproductive technology such as in vitro embryo production (IVP). In the process of IVP gametes and embryos might be exposed to free radicals from outside the body which cause oxidative stress and affect the results of IVP. Provision of antioxidants can be an alternative to reduce damage caused by oxidative stress. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant that can scavenge free radicals such as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and chelate various metals. In addition, its use in IVP has shown a positive effect. This article will explain more deeply the antioxidant activity of ALA and its role in IVP.
